Economic impact of various global events such as the pandemic, climate change, and the blockade of Qatar
Dr. Alexis Antoniades is an associate professor and director of International Economics at Georgetown University in Qatar. A Fulbright scholar with a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University, he is an expert on Understanding Global Markets and on the economies of the Gulf countries. Antoniades, previously worked as an assistant economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, was awarded a $1,050,000 research grant (2009-2012) by the Qatar National Research Fund to undertake the first micro-study on the economies of the Gulf countries, and a $867,000 research grant to use social media and analyze sentiment in the Arab World (2014-2017) in collaboration with colleagues from Qatar University.
In recognition of his expertise, Princeton University awarded him the Niehaus Fellowship in 2012 – a fellowship given to the most talented scholar on issues of globalization and governance. He then spent the 2012-2013 academic year at Princeton University where he also became a member of the European Union Program at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
