Introduction

All our work at Qatar Foundation revolves around offering people opportunities. While our other initiatives provide opportunities for excellence in education and research, it’s through our community development initiatives that we provide a platform to fully engage communities on the ground and build programs that develop our nation as a whole.

In our rapidly advancing world, we recognize the importance of remembering our past to inform our future. We also believe in sharing and preserving our culture, our religion, and our language.

That’s why we have started several initiatives and developed a variety of outreach programs that aim to safeguard and celebrate our heritage.

Al Shaqab

A leading global equine center passionately committed to preserving Qatar’s heritage by promoting the Arabian horse and setting the highest standards in horse welfare, breeding, equine education, and research.

Equine Veterinary Medical Center

A modern equine veterinary hospital, consisting of a diagnostic laboratory and a clinical research laboratory, that contributes to veterinary science through research and educational programs. The hospital is equipped with facilities to conduct MRIs, CT-scans, and nuclear scintigraphy, and includes two operating theaters, a well-equipped farrier shop for hoof care, and lameness examination areas.

Akhlaquna

Akhlaquna is an award that highlights Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) universal and inclusive values, such as mercy, tolerance, honesty, and generosity. It recognizes those who exemplify great moral character through initiating projects that serve their community and beyond.

Education City Mosque

Emphasizing our approach to engaging with the public, the Education City Mosque’s vision is to be the premier community-focused mosque in Qatar and the region. It’s located in the Minaretein building, which rests on five large columns representing the five pillars of Islam, with each featuring a verse drawn from the Holy Qur’an. With the capacity to host 1,800 worshippers in its main prayer hall and another 1,000 in its exterior courtyard, it also serves as a community mosque for the surrounding Al Rayyan area. With a mission to be more than just a place of prayer, the facility has also hosted a variety of events for the entire community since it first opened, offering a diverse range of activities for those who seek to gain knowledge.

Qatar National Library (QNL) is a modern facility that provides the people of Qatar with access to over one million books. In its role as a research library with a preeminent heritage collection, QNL fosters global insight into the history and culture of the Arabian Gulf region.

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) consists of more than 100 musicians chosen by a jury of international music professionals. They perform western and Arabic music in local and international settings.

Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) strives to help the people with diabetes and those who are at risk of developing it by providing innovative patient care, education, and related services with the hope of improving the overall quality of life for those who are affected.

Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) is a non-profit, membership-driven organization providing leadership and encouraging collaboration in conducting environmentally sustainable practices for green building design and development in Qatar.

Oxygen Park

The idea of the 130,000-square-meter Oxygen Park is to introduce a green lung in Education City, inviting students and visitors alike to refresh their mind, body, and spirit through active exercise and to explore the symbiotic relationships between oxygen, plants, and healthy purified living.

Recreational Facilities

We have opened a variety of recreational facilities for our community to use. In these facilities, we host various events for both children and adults, including fitness and sports classes, children’s activities, workshops, and camps. As a chosen World Cup stadium, the Education City Stadium reflects the combined goal of Qatar Foundation and Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy to make the FIFA World Cup 2022™ a catalyst for social and human development. It is destined to serve the sustainable, green, and healthy living needs of the future.

Why are we talking about Qatar’s buried history of slavery?

While many nations shy away from their brutal history of slavery, Qatar decided to document it. This is why when a former slave trader’s house was discovered during the rebuilding of Msheireb Downtown Doha, a decision was made to turn it into a slavery museum—the first establishment in the region dedicated to exhibiting the slave trade that took place in the Indian Ocean early in the 20th century.
