Designed to IAAF and FIFA standards, the Education City Stadium will host up to the quarter-finals stage of FIFA World Cup 2022™. Following the tournament, the capacity of the stadium will be reduced from 40,000 to 20,000, with the extra seats being donated to build stadiums in developing countries, helping cultivate a passion for the game around the globe.

Design

01

Education City Stadium has a design that draws on the rich history of Islamic architecture, blending it with striking modernity. The facade features triangles that form complex, diamond-esque geometrical patterns, appearing to change color with the sun's movement across the sky. Like diamonds, the stadium's design represents quality, durability, and resilience, and will become something to be treasured in the times to come.

Location

02

The stadium’s position in Education City has been carefully chosen with accessibility in mind, particularly for fans with disabilities. However, they arrive, fans will only travel a short distance to their seats along shaded, tree-lined paths—giving them just enough time to enjoy a spectacular view of the venue.

Visitors will notice that the environmentally friendly focus starts well before they arrive. They'll be able to take the Doha Metro to Education City and trams directly to the stadium, significantly reducing the number of cars on the road on match days. There are also cycle paths and bike racks throughout Education City, encouraging people to choose a method of transport that's better for them and the environment.

Sustainability and Legacy

03

Chosen as a key Qatar stadium during the FIFA World Cup 2022™, the stadium will remain a focal point of the community long after the tournament is over. Long-term, the goal is to become an attraction for students and surrounding communities through its three world-class sporting pavilions: one for swimming, one for indoor sports, and a final pavilion for a track and field stadium. Training pitches and other sporting facilities radiate outwards from the stadium, all within easy reach of the local academic community.

The Education City campus is a clear demonstration of Qatar's commitment to sustainability. The parklands, LEED-certified buildings, green architecture, and home to various sustainable initiatives like the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI)—everything here is focused on promoting a green, healthy future for all of us.
