STEM activities hosted within QF`s Darb Al Saai tent during Qatar National Day celebrations

Visitors to the Texas A&M University at Qatar booth which has formed part of Qatar Foundation’s Qatar National Day celebrations at Darb Al Saai have been immersed in the world of robotics, electronic devices, and engineering.

Those who found out what the booth set up by the Qatar Foundation (QF) partner university had to offer, especially children, participated in activities that were specially designed to engage them in science in a fun and interesting way.

The activities presented by Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) were designed to enhance a passion for science among students and school children and develops their critical thinking and innovation skills.

And visitors from different sections of society spoke of how they were impressed by the activities organized in the QF tent, emphasizing that the atmosphere reflects the meaning of Qatar National Day and embodies the role played by QF in supporting the development of a diversified and sustainable economy in Qatar.

Reem Al-Madhahka, one of those who visited QF’s tent, said: “As part of our participation in Qatar National Day, we were keen to visit all tents, including QF’s tent, which is characterized by an academic and educational nature where our children learn a lot in a fun way.

"The robotics world is a passion for my three kids, so they have spent a lot of time in the QF tent, particularly the TAMUQ booth, which has offered robot-related activities and more."

Yahya Ali, 10, one of the young visitors to the QF tent, said: "I like to attend Qatar National Day celebrations with my family every year at Darb Al Saai, because it is an opportunity for us to play and have fun, and what I liked most in the Qatar Foundation tent were the Sphero robots using iPads on podiums.

Nouf Al-Muhannadi, 14, said: “I discovered a lot of useful information in the tent, and since I love science, I enjoyed the TAMUQ activities. I read all the information about liquid materials, and how to change the voice frequency of robots.

“I benefited a lot from my visit to QF’s tent, as I got to know more about TAMUQ and enhance my ambition in the field of science and engineering, and I feel that I would like to join this university in the future.”

The QF tent at Darb Al Saai is open to the public on from 9am-1pm, and from 3.30pm-10pm, up to and including Thursday, December 19, and from 2pm-11pm on Friday, December 20.
